Dr. Barbara Light has lived in Saffron Walden for around 20 years. She previously worked in management training and as a university lecturer with a specific focus on work related adult learning. Being interested in politics Barbara has been a school governor, party chair and candidate in several elections.
Barbara enjoys studying, the arts, keeping fit, walking in the countryside (when it’s not too muddy!) and visiting family and friends in Italy as often as she can. As a keen gardener she has appreciated her tiny oasis during the past year of lockdown even more than usual.
Currently, Barbara is a town and district councillor, always ready to help local residents with their council-related issues and to act as a strong advocate for all the residents of Uttlesford, also representing the East of England on the Green Party Regional Council which is charged with party wellbeing and strategy.
Barbara co-founded the non-political EcoForum with green-minded colleagues to bring environmentally interested and active people together. She has also been participating in a cross-party climate crisis working group at Uttlesford District Council, but is becoming increasingly impatient at the lack of tangible actions being implemented.
There is much to be done to create sustainable lifestyles in a sustainable world and we cannot afford to sit around complacently and watch the destruction of our earth. Barbara is mindful that the decisions and actions we take now will affect the future lives of our children and their children for generations to come, so we must take the right ones and ensure the future wellbeing of our natural world and all who live there.
