Cllr Trilby Roberts and Edward Gildea were delighted to present copies of ‘The Lorax’ to all four Primary Schools in Saffron Walden.
Dr Seuss’s prophetic book depicts a world in which the Once-ler family destroy all the Truffula Trees for a quick and easy profit. Their economy, based on the principle of ‘Biggering’, ultimately leaves a dark and gloomy world, devoid of Truffula trees.
‘The Lorax’ is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, and there could be no more powerful vision of the catastrophic impact of rapacious consumption on the environment. On the eve of Saffron Walden’s Great Big Green Week and in the run up to COP 26, the anniversary is uncannily well timed!
Both members of Uttlesford Green Party, Edward and Trilby are educators by training and environmental and social justice activists in practice. They know the power of ‘story’, and how parents can benefit from a good story just as much as their children!
It is a ‘must read’, with all the fun, bouncing rhythm and imagination of Dr Seuss’s books, but with a profound message for us all.
